Rock of ages ... The Who get mixed rap for Super Bowl. PAT SEZ: "IN A WORLD OF PHONY MUSIC & CRAP ARTISTS, WE VERY FORTUNATE TO STILL HAVE THE WHO WITH US, SO SHUT UP... TELL ME, WHO THE F**K ARE YOU?"
Veteran rockers The Who's performance at the most coveted televised gig in the world was panned by some viewers but praised by music critics.
Rolling Stone called the band's Super Bowl half time outing a "giant display of rock & roll might and pyrotechnics", while Billboard said it was a "solid if expected medley [of] classic rock hits".
But at-home viewers lambasted the 12-minute set, with some wondering on Twitter how the band "got so old".
"Out of the possible relevant bands to play at the Superbowl; The Who are selected? What a bore," one viewer said. "And I'm an old guy."
"The Who was bought and paid for by Bridgestone," another viewer said. "How old do you think the BS execs are? It's a Boomer's world man."
"Saints capitalizing on The Who's halftime performance putting the Colts' defense to sleep," yet another viewer weighed in.
And others yearned for the raciness of 2004's halftime gig, when Janet Jackson spiced things up with her infamous "wardrobe malfunction".
"No offense to The Who but once you've seen titty at half time it's hard to go back," one said.
A small number of viewers said they enjoyed the band's lights extravaganza.
"I'm surprised people are bad talking the halftime show. I love the who," said one woman.
But others said the performance was criminal.
"The White House just announced that the Who's halftime show will be classified as an act of terrorism on US soil," one said. |
